CHAMPIONS Dynamos are today expected to meet their flagship sponsor BancABC to map the way forward before they can officially advise Zifa of their intention to participate in the Champions League next year. Yesterday, the team’s executive was supposed to hold a meeting and plan ahead for the continental club tournament but deffered the indaba to tommorow so that they engage their sponsors first.
Club chairman Kenny Mubaiwa said they can only meet as a club after consulting with BancABC who bankroll their operations.
Dynamos had a three-year deal with the financial institution which ends this season.
However, the club has already said that they want to compete in the African Safari where they have met with little success in the recent editions.
Earlier this year, Mubaiwa said they were considering to take a break from participating in the continental tournament following another disappointing exit.
But it appears the club have realised they need to compete with the best on the continent for them to keep improving.
Mubaiwa revealed they have already instructed their coach Callisto Pasuwa to identify the players he needs to beef up his squad.
“We are having our meeting on Thursday. We cannot confirm about our participation in the Champions League when the sponsor has not given us the greenlight.
“So, we are meeting with the sponsor tommorow (today) and we will have a position as this tournament needs money for one to participate in it.
“Only after that meeting we will then be able to meet as a club. But, in the meantime, we have told our coach to go ahead with his plans and identify the players and areas he would want to make additions.
“By Saturday, the day of the deadline for confirmation, we would have a position as a club and communicate with Zifa.
During the course of the season Pasuwa was not happy with the club’s inability to buy players he wanted and he wants to have fresh personnel in his strikeforce and defence.
However, the DeMbare coach has always been an admirer of FC Platinum striker Donald Ngoma although the forward has struggled to live up to the hype he created in his first season in the Premiership.
