UNDER normal circumstances, any coach would have sleepless nights if his team is neither scoring goals nor going the extra mile to win matches.
This rings true for Dynamos coach Lloyd “MaBlanyo” Chigowe, who returns to Rufaro with his charges this Sunday to face similarly barren opponents, Chicken Inn.
The Glamour Boys are not scoring goals, even in practice games as was the case when they played two friendly matches against Division One side Black Mambas yesterday and fired blanks.
Dynamos have made a trademark slow-start to the season and already there are concerns among some sections of their supporters after the giants managed just two goals in the opening five matches.
Questions have also been raised on the whereabouts of a Nigerian striker Dynamos were reported to be lining up to front their attack this season.
Their inefficiency has been a talking point.
This is a poor statistic, which translate to one goal in 225 minutes. However, Chigowe has remained optimistic.
“We have been hard working on it and I think we will get a solution to that problem soon. Football is won by scoring goals as well.
“Defensively, and in other departments, I think we are doing well. The team is coming up, we need to improve more in the final third and on our finishing.
“And as we do that, we also need to make sure that we keep shape and support these boys psychologically.
“We have the material, but sometimes when you work with these youngsters you have to go the extra mile to help them gain confidence because playing for Dynamos comes with huge demands,” said Chigowe.
Only one DeMbare player, Shadreck Nyahwa, has managed to get his name of the scoresheet this season. Their other goal was an own goal by a TelOne player in a 1-1 draw at Rufaro two weeks ago.
Unlike the problematic strikeforce, Dynamos’ defence marshalled by skipper Emmanuel Jalai and Clive Mandivei has been one of their strongest departments.
But as long as they do not score enough, it will be difficult to win matches.
With one win in five games, DeMbare definitely need to pull up the socks to keep abreast with the early championship pace-setters. Three of their five matches ended in draws.
Dynamos suffered their first loss when they travelled to Mutare last weekend to play Manica Diamonds. The 1-0 defeat was a huge blow as they now trail log leaders Ngezi Platinum Stars by seven points.
The Glamour Boys have amassed six points from the opening five matches and they sit on 11th position in the race.
Their only win was against defending champions Simba Bhora at Rufaro, while three matches against Herentals, ZPC Kariba and TelOne ended in stalemate.
Chigowe urged the club’s supporters to lend more support to his boys.
“I think the supporters have seen that we have the players that can do duty. So, they should continue rallying behind the team through thick and thin.
“On Sunday we really need them to come in their numbers. Of course results may not have come as everyone had expected but this is the time that they should show up and prop up the boys.
“We are nothing without our supporters and I think let’s be a little bit more patient with the boys. I am sure they will turn things around if we help them gain more confidence,” said Chigowe.
Their opponents Chicken Inn are in a more difficult position as they are yet to win a game this season after encountering four draws and one defeat.
