DYNAMOS’ transformation from being the WORST team, when it comes to its attack, into a free-scoring machine, has been stunning.
It has been one of the feel-good stories of this remarkable Castle Lager Premiership season.
The Glamour Boys struggled badly, when it came to scoring goals, during a forgettable season in which they even flirted with relegation last season.
In the end they survived, after finishing just two points clear of GreenFuel and Bikita Minerals, who went down.
But, their final report showed a club which had the worst strikeforce in the league as DeMbare scored just 20 goals all season.
Given they had scored only seven goals, at the halfway mark of the season, the 13 goals scored in the second half of the campaign represented an improvement, in terms of their attack and conversion rate.
They say statistics, just like the league table itself, don’t lie.
The Glamour Boys’ tally of 20 league goals all season was only three goals better than the 17 goals which Washington Navaya, on his own, scored for TelOne on his way to winning the Golden Boot.
Only Kwekwe United, probably the worst team to ever play in the domestic Premiership in its history, scored a fewer number of goals, 15, all season.
And, when one considers that Kwekwe United won just one match all season, the shortcomings of that DeMbare side are put into context.
Yadah, who finished as the second worst team during last season’s campaign, even scored more goals, 23, compared to Dynamos’ poor tally of 20 goals.
Bikita Minerals, who also went down, had a better goal return of 25 goals compared to DeMbare’s return of 20 goals.
But, suddenly, the Glamour Boys have found their touch, when it comes to scoring goals, this season.
From a club, which had scored just seven goals, after 17 games last season, they now have scored 26 goals.
From a club which finished with the second worst record, when it comes to scoring goals, in the league last season, Dynamos are now are the top-scoring side in the domestic Premiership.
Their 26-goal tally, so far this season, gives them pride of place at the top of the scoring charts.
That they have outscored a Scottland team, powered by their irresistible BMW (Billiat, Walter and Musona) combination, so far this season, underlines just how good this DeMbare team has been in attack.
The champions, who have played a game more, have scored 25 goals this season.
Hardrock, who wooed Navaya into their camp, have scored 24 goals, Ngezi Platinum Stars have scored 23 goals, Herentals have scored 22 and CAPS United have scored 20 goals.
DeMbare have scored TEN more goals than what MWOS have scored so far this season.
They have scored SIXTEEN more goals than what Chicken Inn have scored at this point of the campaign.
When compared to their campaign last season, the Glamour Boys have scored NINETEEN more goals, at this stage of the campaign.
Ghanaian forward Frank Agyemang has been one of the standout players in this DeMbare side.
His goal, in the 2-2 draw against Hunters at Rufaro, was a product of genius, dummying his marker at the halfway mark and speeding through on goal before caressing the ball home.
On Saturday, in the 3-0 win over TelOne, Agyemang scored his EIGTH goal of the season.
This means that, after 17 games this season, the Ghanaian has scored more goals, on his own, than what the DeMbare team produced at the same stage of the season last year.
Had the Dynamos defence performed as well as their strikeforce this season, it’s very likely that the Glamour Boys would have been among the clubs in the top three in the championship race.
However, the defence has been letting the team down and that they have conceded 16 goals, at an average of a goal every game, puts their shortcomings into context.
Sunday Chidzambwa used to say that defence wins the championship.
And, that Scottland, who are leading the race, have only conceded six goals, highlights the challenges DeMbare have been facing in defence.
