DeMbare’s Kante unfazed by goal drought

DYNAMOS’ leading goal scorer Donald “Kante” Mudadi has hit a dry patch.

With four goals under his belt, the midfielder, who rescued the Glamour Boys with his goals and assists in the opening stages of the current marathon, has failed to find the back of the net in the past seven league games.

Neither has he been clinical in the Chibuku Super Cup in which Dynamos have booked a place in the last eight.

But the former Black Rhinos man is not worried.

“That (not scoring) never worries me as a player. The good thing is that everyone is scoring and the team is winning,” Mudadi said.

“I would be disturbed by failing to be on the scoresheet if everyone else fails as well. For as long as the team is getting the goals and the points, I am not concerned about myself being the scorer.

“What matters most is Dynamos being able to win matches and getting the points which everyone wants to see. If I get to engineer a goal or provide an assist, then I am okay with that”.

Perhaps the ever-changing deployment he is getting has also contributed to the drying of the goals.

Sometimes he is given the box-to-box role and at times he sits deep in the midfield shielding the defence.

But his performance has no doubt been one of the best by a midfielder in the entire league.

He is expected to inspire Dynamos to victory in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie against Simba Bhora at Barbourfields tomorrow.

With nine points separating them from leaders Highlanders, who could even stretch the gap further if they avoid defeat against FC Platinum at Mandava this afternoon, Dynamos know they have to get the maximum points against Simba Bhora tomorrow.

The latter are themselves seeking to move further away from the red zone and they will be hoping to neutralise DeMbare.

“We should always put in the extra. Simba Bhora will obviously come hard on us. Remember they are also chasing their targets and they are never a small team as they may appear.

“They are a team with very experienced players. You look at the likes of Patson Jaure, Tichaona Chipunza, Simba Chinani, Keith Murera, Ronald Chitiyo and Tinashe Balakasi among others.

“These are players who can fit into any team and they can beat anyone on their day. We are very much aware of that and we need to believe in ourselves going into this match.

“Simba Bhora have so many former Dynamos sons and they know what to do to get results,” Mudadi said.

“This is a game where we have to retain maximum focus and concentration if we are to come out on top.

“We are a team that is chasing very ambitious targets and one thing that we can’t afford to do at this juncture is dropping points. We have to play like Dynamos, dominate possession, create the most chances, convert them and win the game.

“If we fail to dominate the ball or territory, we should be able to grind results. That’s the Dynamos spirit we are trying to have right now.

“We don’t want to be remembered as that crop of 2023 that failed to cheer the team when they were celebrating their 60th anniversary.

“We are going into the match against Simba Bhora with one thing in mind, that is to win the match. We don’t have two choices as things stand. We need to win our games and see what happens at the end of the marathon. We are a squad with very good players and the zeal being shown by everyone is inspiring”.

But before Dynamos can look to clip a win over Simba Bhora, Bosso have a chance to consolidate or even stretch their lead at the top should they be able to beat struggling FC Platinum at Mandava this afternoon.

Second-placed Ngezi Platinum Stars, who are playing some of the most entertaining football in the league come face to face with Triangle who they beat 2-0 in the Chibuku Super Cup just a fortnight ago at Baobab.

That they managed to find a way past Triangle at the same venue only 14 days ago means the latter could come up with a strategy that can unlock them, says Ngezi Platinum defender Gareth Madhake.

“It’s always tricky to meet the same opponent twice in two weeks. You need to be a shrewd unit to be able to pull through,” he said.

“We are going into this match fully aware of what needs to be done. We are five points behind the leaders and we should win this one”.
