LEONARD Dembo’s children — Tendai, Morgan and Fenistia — insist their late father’s legacy is in safe hands.
The Barura Express founder died on April 9 1996, aged 37.
And, 28 years after his death, Dembo’s music is still very popular.
He would have turned 65 this year.
Over the years, critics have been hard on Tendai and Morgan as they want them to keep their father’s legacy alive.
Fenistia is also making music and she has done some remixes of her late father’s songs.
In an interview, Tendai said:
“At first, it used to affect us because we were still rookies but after all the experience since 2010, I can safely say I am almost there.
“What I enjoy nowadays is that people now accept us as we are.
“We have also done some good songs but, as expected, our father was a music colossus and our efforts won’t be recognised by many people,” he said.

The 37-year-old added:
“It’s not easy when people start these debates but we are maturing with time.
“Each time that we remember him in April, we are celebrating his legacy with pride.
“He might not be there physically but spiritually he is the one giving us direction and guidance.”
Similar sentiments were echoed by Morgan, who has been busy in the studio doing solo projects.
“We are happy with the progress that we have made, 28 years after his death.
“My younger brother has been touring around Zimbabwe and I am happy for him because he is raising our flag high.
“We are also in the studio working together on some projects for our sons,” he said.
The 38-year-old hailed their old and new fans for believing in the brand started by their late father.
“A lot has changed in the past 28 years but our father’s legacy is safe.”
Fenistia has been praying for her siblings to unite and work as a team.
The family is set to hold a big event later this month.
The event is meant to celebrate the life of Dembo who gave us timeless hits like Chitekete, Mazano and Yave, among other chart-toppers.
