Dembos, Jah Prayzah face off

The Dembo brothers, who are on a comeback trail, will curtain raise for Jah Prayzah at a potentially explosive gig at the home of jazz where the young meet the old fans.Music critics and musicians alike have commended Morgan and Tendai for reviving the Barura legacy. As is always the case, the young Dembos will churn out renditions of their late father’s classics including hits such as “Chitekete”, “Madhiri”, “Babamunini”, “Shiri Yakangwara”, “Handingazvigone”, “Chengeto” and “Musha Rudzii” among others.
Fans should look forward to a night of musical bliss when the youthful musicians taken them down memory lane.

Though the brothers have released one album to date, they have learned a lot performing alongside other seasoned musicians in the form of Alick Macheso, Oliver Mtukudzi and Somandla Ndebele.

However, this does not mean that the brothers are not talented. No, they just need time to discover themselves since they have plenty of room to improve.
Those who attended the weekend gig will admit that Morgan and Tendai have seen the light and are now more focused unlike their formative years when they would quarrel over who should lead in vocals or who should play what instrument.

This time around the guys are more focused and have one thing in common – to relive their father’s legacy.
Besides being a carbon copy of his father, Morgan is also growing musically and physically such that whenever he takes to the stage fans are reminded of the great Leonard Dembo. Their act has vastly improved.

On the other hand, the dreadlocked Jah Prayzah who usually sports army fatigues on stage has won the hearts of many with the release of “Tsviriyo”. He is getting better with each show and now commands a huge following.

Like a true soldier, the “Sisiriya” hitmaker commands his troops with authority. With chart-topping hits like “Gochi Gochi” and “Tsviriyo” fans should bring their dancing shoes as Jah Prayzah and the Third Generation Band will be heating up things on stage with their well-choreographed drills.

Although Jah Prayzah’s music cannot be pigeon-holed for one reason or other, he is one artiste who has managed to cut across genres. One moment he sings reggae-flavoured hits then the next moment he goes traditional. That is how he likes it to keep fans entertained.

If you listen to the track “Sisiriya” which features Oliver Mtukudzi then you know what good music sounds like. It appears whatever Tuku touches turns to gold. Remember the song “Kwedu” which he did alongside Sulu?

When Jah Prayzah released the track “Gochi Gochi” many people dismissed it as a radio commercial for a butchery in Warren Park D.
Well, that was surprising considering that even the makers of Aston Martin luxury vehicles at one point asked rapper Rick Ross to record a song for their DB9 model and the track went platinum just like that.

Whether “Gochi Gochi” was an advert or not you cannot take away the fact that it’s a beautiful sing-along tune.
And many love Jah Prayzah for bringing smiles on their faces through his happy
go-lucky songs.

Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions, who are organising the gig, was elated that the gig will allow Jah Prayzah to exhibit his talent as a singer and  performer.
“You cannot run away from the fact that Jah Prayzah is one of the most sought-after musicians at the moment. He wants to connect with his fans through music and nothing else,” he said.

Chipaz urged fans to come in their numbers and enjoy the good music until late.
