Demos flop as people ignore calls

Herald Reporter
Planned mass demonstrations by shadowy groups be-lieved to be aligned to MDC-T flopped yesterday with people ignoring calls for violent street protests.
The groups had been sending unsolicited text messages, e-mails and posts on social networking sites such as Facebook in the hope of getting Zimbabweans to engage in demonstrations against the Government.
A handful of people turned up yesterday morning at Harare Gardens, where the protests were supposed to start.
Police sources said they had deployed units for public safety but they had not been called into action.
“In Harare Gardens it was peaceful and people were going about their usual business,” a police source said.
Another source said they would continue to monitor the situation even though it was under control.
MDC-T has on several occassions tried to rally people to street demonstrations and these have all flopped.
