WE cannot doubt that Denver Mukamba is a real talent and can go some way in trying to match the legendary Peter Ndlovu as well as Benjani Mwaruwari if he stays focused.
However, in his quest to follow in the footsteps of these Warriors legends, the Dynamos star does not have to do everything they did – especially the bad.
Let me bring you up to speed fellow Zimbabweans.
You see, there is an Angel who watches over Dynamos. She has been around for a while now and is said to have been at the centre of that infamous spat between Peter and Benjie.
This Angie – sorry, Angel – was also reported to have been at the centre of that Soccer Star of the Year dinner bust-up between Gift Bello and Kuda Mahachi. And one Tendai Ndoro is also said to have done the Fire 7 thing-thing with her during his days at Chicken Inn.
Now she is romoured to have latched onto Denver.
I hear the young man, who last weekend tried his best to rid himself of the Casanova tag, is going gaga over the ageing yellow bone.
The talent that Mukamba still has, as evidenced by that sublime goal he scored against Harare City last Sunday, makes him a national asset.
His off-field behaviour becomes of national interest, too, hence Sir’s concern about the company the young man has chosen to keep.
Back in the day, DeMbare fans were known for bringing the club’s players back into line but it seems that culture is gone.
Today the fans actually celebrate seeing one of their star players wasting away and even have the audacity to call him mukuwasha/malume/son-in-law.
But things are not normal at Dynamos these days, are they?
Coaches Lloyd Mutasa and Murape Murape are working without contracts, the team doesn’t have a secretary-general, and some of its players have no desire to defend that Zimbabwe flag-carrying lion on the club badge to the last breath.
Last Sunday my mind raced back to the days when my late father used to live for Dynamos when I saw the DeMbare faithful waving their flags hysterically in the capital.
The celebrations were over the top, one would have been forgiven for believing that Dynamos had just wrapped up the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.
But lo and behold, the once Glamour Boys had only ended a six game winless run by beating a team coached by a man who doesn’t have the faintest idea of what needs to be done to beat DeMbare.
That Dynamos’ 2-1 win over Moses Chunga’s Harare City came on the same that day that Caps United had their not-so-green leaves plucked by Bulawayo City left the DeMbare’s fans feeling orgasmic.
Now the DeMbare fans are talking of their team pulling another smash and grab on the league front.
And one cannot blame them for daring to dream because if there is anything that Dynamos are good at, it is rescuing lost causes.
However, one gets the feeling that DeMbare fans seem to have blinkers, blinkers that prevent them from realising that this Dynamos of today is not the Dynamos they called Chazunguza.
Playing for Dynamos is not something to marvel at anymore.
When jokes like Jacob Muzomboka are signed as solutions to goal-scoring woes then just about anyone – including Mr Pak Bean – can fancy their chances of wearing that blue kit.
