President Mnangagwa today swore in Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Deputy Minister Simelisizwe Sibanda whom he pardoned after firing him last month for misdemeanours in the discharge of his duties.
Commissioners of the Land Commission, Dr Tsitsi Choruma and Ms Sukai Tongogara, as well as Commissioner in the Commission of Inquiry into the Governance of the Harare City Council, Mr Tafadzwa Charles Hungwe, were also sworn in.
In an interview after the swearing-in ceremony, Deputy Minister Sibanda said: “First of all it shows the confidence that His Excellency has in me and it also shows that we have a forgiving father.
“It shows that the President is interested in continuity so that we carry forward the tasks he has given us as we work towards attaining Vision 2030.”
Dr Choruma pledged to serve diligently during her time at the Land Commission.
“As the Land Commission, I think our role is around recommending policies to the State so that we move forward with the progress we have made so far,” she said.
Mr Hungwe said: “I think the best people to deal with first are the people of Harare, they know the problems that are there so if it’s a procedural or systems issue, it will be looked at from that angle. I think that is where the solutions lie,” he said.
Ms Tongogara said she would ensure that corruption is done away with.
“We have got issues of problematic chiefs, and we have had a lot of cases at the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission. So I am coming in with an insight from the investigative side knowing the problems and finding solutions that can be recommended to the Government so that agricultural land corruption can be stopped,” she said.
