Derby Day first teams fixtures out

THE first team fixtures for the much awaited annual Saint John’s Derby Day Schools Rugby Festival which starts today have been released.

First team matches are however, scheduled to be played on Wednesday May 3 and Saturday, May 6. A total of 16 fixtures will take place across the two days.

Only one school from Bulawayo, Christian Brothers College (CBC) Hornets is set to take part in the fiesta. Falcon College based in Esigodini will also take part in the event and both teams will play two matches each.

The Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board (BMRFB) Under-20 league reigning champions, Hornets, will start their campaign with a match against Hillcrest on Wednesday afternoon. The Nelson Madida-coached Hornets will then go on to face Wise Owl on Saturday in their last match.

Falcon College will be up against Saint George’s College in their first encounter before going on to play against Lomagundi College in their last game on Saturday.

Speaking to Chronicle Sport, Madida said his team is ready for the challenge and is well prepared.

Wednesday: Heritage v Eaglesvale, Rydings v Gateway, Midlands Christian College v Watershed, Wise Owl v Kyle College, CBC v Hillcrest, Churchill v Lomagundi, Falcon College v St. George’s College, St. John’s College v Prince Edward.

Saturday 6 May: MCC v Rydings, Hillcrest v Heritage, Watershed v Gateway, Eaglesvale v Kyle College, CBC v Wise Owl, Churchill v Prince Edward, Falcon College v Lamagundi College, St. John’s College v St. George’s College. – @brandon_malvin.
