MODEST Pacific Storm ZIFA Eastern Region Division One side, Destiny Stars, are keeping their foot on the pedal in their quest to finish the season in the top half of the table as the campaign reaches its climax.
With 10 rounds of fixtures remaining, coach, Itai “Madhinda” Makumi, is rallying his charges to stay focused, and fight on for the remainder of the season.
The club grabbed the bragging rights in a local derby at the weekend with a commanding 3-0 victory over crosstown rivals, Mutare City Rovers.
Makumi believes there is still plenty to play for before the season concludes.
“So far so good for us. Our current position on the table is still within range to enable us to achieve our target of finishing in the Top Six as there are still 30 points to play for. We are keeping our eyes on the ball, and taking each game as it comes, so that we see where it takes us at the end of the season,” said the firebrand tactician.
He described the five players acquired during the mid-season transfer window – Mark Makuyana, Nobert Zingo, Tinotenda Chigonde, Kuda Muchaoarwa and Khumbulani Jovo – as having added spine to the squad.
“The new acquisitions have given us another dimension, and there is plenty of room for the entire squad to improve. Everyone is enjoying the moment,” said Makumi.
Destiny Stars occupy 10th position on the 19-team table, with 34 points from eight wins, 10 draws and as many losses.
