A 42-YEAR-OLD man from Dete last week appeared at the Hwange magistrates court on allegations of attempting to kill his wife.

Chematola Idi (42) appeared before regional magistrate, Mr Collet Ncube for allegedly assaulting his wife (40) and leaving her for dead. He was remanded in custody to Wednesday for continuation of trial.

The state represented by prosecutor Mr Vumizulu Mangena alleges that on 28 August the accused and his wife were at Jambanaye beerhall in Dete drinking beer. The accused then ordered the complainant to go home but she refused. He then assaulted her with open hands on her face.

Idi dragged his wife outside where he picked a brick and used it to assault her once on the face.  The complainant fell unconscious  and began bleeding from the nose and mouth. The owner of the beer hall and a patron came outside and witnessed the complainant bleeding profusely while Idi stood aside. He tried to flee but was apprehended by other patrons.

The complainant was ferried to Dete clinic where she was subsequently referred to St Patrick’s Hospital for medical attention. A medical report will be produced in court as exhibit. – Follow on Twitter; @5_Shannico
