CHINHOYI Municipality has taken delivery of heavy-duty machinery courtesy of the devolution funds, while a fire tender truck is expected to be delivered soon.
The municipality procured a tractor loader backhoe (TLB) which is expected to lessen pressure on excavation of sewer and water trenches and land clearing as the town expands.
Council spokesperson, Mr Tichaona Mlauzi, said the equipment was purchased at a value of over US$87 000.
“The purchase was funded through devolution. The machinery that we have bought will be used mainly during road construction that include excavation and loading of gravel while it can also be used at our dumpsite.
“It is a welcome development to the people of Chinhoyi and we are grateful to the devolution funds instituted by the Second Republic,” he said.
Prior to its purchase, council was mainly relying on hiring manpower.
Chinhoyi Residents’ Association member, Mr Tatenda Chitate, welcomed the move saying it was a people-driven decision that was going to aid to the council vision of attaining city status.
Mr Peter Liwanda of Chinhoyi Residents’ Trust also said the decision to procure the machinery, including a fire tender currently at Kazungula Border Post, were over due.
Currently, council relies on a fire tender from Chegutu, which is some 90km away.
