In a bid to transform people’s livelihoods through a competitive service delivery system, the Manyame Rural District Council has bought dump trucks, water bowser, vibratory rolle , ambulance and motorbikes using devolution funds.
Also, some of the funds used to buy the equipment were from the council’s coffers as it aims to improve service delivery .
This week, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Aplonia Munzverengwi, who already embarked on a provincial tour of projects funded by devolution, visited Seke area, under Manyame Rural District Council where various projects are underway.
She also commissioned the new equipment.
Senator Munzverengwi said devolution funds disbursed by Government have transformed livelihoods of people across the province.
“We have seen new schools and clinics being built in several district in the province. The new dispensation is working tirelessly to transform livelihoods of people, we request town clerks, chief executive officers and councillors to look for projects which are being needed most by residents.
“In so doing we were trying to fulfil President Mnangagwa’s call of attaining upper middle income economy by 2030. President Mnangagwa said leave no one behind and we have commissioned several projects across the province,” said Minister Munzverengwi.
“In Marondera they used to have water challenges for several decades but now they are receiving clean safe water four times a week. In resettlement areas, new schools and clinics were built and commissioned. Our children used to walk long distances to school. Also several rural district councils procured borehole rigs which they will use to drill boreholes to mitigate water woes.”
Minister Munzverengwi said devolution funds reduce the burden to ratepayers as councils are now channelling funds to other developmental projects.
Speaking at the same event, Seke Constituency legislator, Cde Munyaradzi Kashambe, commended the New Dispensation for the funds saying they are going a long way in uplifting lives of the generality of citizens.
He concurred with Senator Munzverengwi on that the funds are making lives easier for the people through developmental projects.
“I want to commend the Government, under President Mnangagwa for availing these funds. Our people’s lives are being improved. There is development everywhere, thanks to our President and New Dispensation. The funds have been put to good use and I would like to say to Minister Munzverengwi, Go and tell our President that we have received the funds and we have put them to good use,” he said.
