Devolution funds uplift school

Computer and science laboratories have been built at Chatiza High School in ward 15 of Mutoko Rural District Council using devolution funds, as the Second Republic continues to improve the quality of education for learners across the country.

Already, the labs have been fitted with relevant equipment required to be fully functional.

The development has been commended by learners at the high school, who said days of doing theory with no practical backup were now over.

During a visit to the school by council officials recently, learners said they were thankful to Mutoko RDC as well as Government for the development.

“We have been doing theory only at this school and lacked the critical practical part. Now the science lab has been constructed, we are happy about this development since we will be having our science practicals in there,” said Jevous Chionerwa, a learner at the school.

“We are also happy that a computer lab has been built and is complete. We look forward to use these two important buildings as soon as possible for our benefit.”

Another learner Blessing Tinotenda Mutsamhi thanked Government for availing funds which were used for the construction of the labs.

“I want to thank Government for availing devolution funds to improve our school. Both labs are equally important for us, especially for those who are doing a combination of science subjects, particularly Advanced Level learners,” he said.

“They will experience the practical side of those science subjects through carrying out experiments, a critical part for one doing science subjects. So we are glad as Chatiza learners.”

Tinotenda Mukango said it was important for learners to do practical experiments as part of the learning process.

“We are thankful. Practicals are an important part of our learning and for us to have these two labs is a huge step towards bringing quality education to schools in rural areas and we thank Government for this,” he said.

Catherine Chimhanga concurred with other learners and appealed for more apparatus to be brought to the school for students to carry out more and wider experiments.

Chatiza High School headmaster Mr Miracle Lloyd Chatiza said the labs will go a long way in delivering quality education to learners.

“Thank you the Second Republic and our local authority for a job well done. Learners are going to benefit a lot from these labs,” he said. “Our learners had no where to do their science subjects practicals or a computer lab. Now we have them. We are thankful as a school with this kind of development.”

Mutoko RDC chief executive officer Mr Birriat Tasarira said as council they will continue to transform people’s lives.

“We have just completed construction of a science and a computer lab at this school and we are now left with furnishing of the computer lab, which is currently in progress,” he said.

“We are thankful to the Second Republic for devolution funds which we channelled towards constructing these labs.”

“We would like to see our rural learners having all what they need for their education just like these in urban schools. We hope that they will also do their part and study hard and excel in their science subjects.

“As council, we will continue to work hard across the district to bring quality service delivery to the people, leaving no one and no place behind. I want to thank the community for working with council during construction period.”
