Gospel musician Devotion C has released a new single, Songs of Zion, a spiritually rich offering that blends traditional mbira sounds with Chimurenga and sungura rhythms, wrapped in poetic lyrics carrying a prophetic message for Zimbabwe.

Produced by BMC at Play It On Studios, the track draws inspiration from Deuteronomy 20:4 and delivers what the artiste describes as more than just music — but a divine calling.

Devotion C, born Matthew Chishumba, said the song came to him through a vision.
“Songs of Zion is a divine assignment. The song’s name, lyrics, and instrumentation, including traditional mbira, were all inspired by scripture,” he said.

Quoting Psalm 150:3-5, he explained the spiritual foundation behind the composition: “‘Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet, Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dancing, Praise Him with stringed instruments and flute! Praise Him with loud cymbals, Praise Him with high sounding cymbals!’”

The song draws a symbolic parallel between the biblical journey of Israel and Zimbabwe’s own liberation story. According to Devotion C, landmarks such as the African Museum of Liberation serve as reminders of divine intervention, much like the 12 stones gathered at the Jordan in Joshua 4:1-7.
“It’s a call to recognise God’s goodness and give Him glory,” he said. “As Exodus 14:14 says, ‘The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.’ Zion is where God resides, and we are reminded in Psalm 132:13-14 that the Lord has chosen Zion as His dwelling place.”

Through Songs of Zion, the artiste urges Zimbabweans to honour God for the bravery and wisdom of liberation heroes and to remain thankful for victories — both past and present.

Beyond this latest release, Devotion C continues to build a solid catalogue with songs such as Stimela Sezulu, Munhu Haasekwi and You Are So Good To Me, steadily cementing his place in Zimbabwe’s gospel landscape.
