Dhewa makes City Sports Bar debut

focus on new venues in Harare and its environs.
Tongai, known by his fans as Dhewa, makes a debut appearance tonight (Friday) at the City Sports Bar, opened to the public last year.
He is expected to roll out his plan that will also see him stage gigs at most new joints in Kadoma, Chegutu, and Gweru, before coming to Harare for similar shows.
But being the man of honour that he is, Tongai will not forget the conventional joints that propelled him to stardom.
Speaking from his base in Kwekwe Tongai said he was looking forward to his show at the City Sports Bar.
“I am going there for the first time,” he said. “But I know both my fans and I are going to have a good time.”
Joint proprietor, Biggie Chinoperekwei said it would be an honour to host the sungura ace for the first time at the venue.
“The show is also a harbinger of good things to come between ourselves and Tongai. We are planning to work on similar shows this year,” he said.
Since re-igniting live shows following a bout of ill health, the self-proclaimed “founder of strategy”, together with his Utakataka Express, have been having a good time with live shows.
All his recent shows have been sold out. It appears that Tongai is on a fine roll without any more health worries.
He has also received a great boost to his music career following the lifeline thrown for him by new kid on the music promotion scene Joseph Munyebvu of Joe Promotions.
Munyebvu has been organising shows for Dhewa, starting with his “Comeback Shows” held in the Harare Gardens and at Megga 1 Bar in Graniteside recently.
Those who thought that Tongai would not last the entire show were surprised to see him go all the way without any hiccups..
Tongai has a string of hit albums under his belt – “Naye”, “Muchina Muhombe”, “Muridzi Wenyaya”. His latest album “Toita Basa”, has lived up to its billing.
Elsewhere in Harare, Suluman Chimbetu tonight returns with full force to Jazz 105 when he teams up with Mudhara Weeds and JM Seasons Band.
Alick Macheso tonight heads to Bindura where he will be at Tendai Hall, dishing out old and new hits such as “Shedia”, as well as “Chimoko Changu”, among others taken off his latest release, “Zvinoda Kutendwa”.
Tomorrow, “Cheso Power” travels to Traveller Tavern in Dzivarasekwa for a romance with his fans.
The talented bassist and vocalist will then wind up his weekend with an outing at Shamwari Yetsoka Night Club in Mutoko on Sunday.
Talented jazz outfit Kairange, led by Geoff Chiumia, do what they know best when they invade Beer Engine at the Jameson Hotel tonight, before rushing to Aviators at the Sheraton Hotel in Harare to wind up the night.
Tomorrow, Miami Night Club in Sunningdale will resound to hits off their two albums – the self-titled “Kairange” and “In Gear”.
“We promise to dish out some of our new numbers, such as “Ndaenda” and “Man of Africa” that are carried on our forthcoming album,” said Chiumia.
Kanindo exponent Moses Rwizi is at Vito Bar in Mbare on Sunday afternoon in a show that marks the return of live shows at the joint that has been redundant for a long time now.
The bar was one of the most popular entertainment and leisure spots in the past, before it lost its lustre.
