Diamond Musica on national tour

AFTER successfully complementing rhumba giant Koffi Olomide at the Rhumba Carnival Night early this month, members of star-studded Diamond Musica will not rest on their laurels as they seek to conquer.

Fronted by Pitshou Lumiere, the outfit drives to Mutare for potentially explosive show at Club Mandisa tomorrow.

The rare visit to the Diamond City is part of the group’s countrywide tour as they are set to perform in all the country’s provinces, reviving the genre which was on demand a decade back. In an interview, Lumiere was upbeat that rhumba was still popular with local fans.

“Our tour is to reaffirm that rhumba music still remains popular in the country although Zim dancehall has taken over

“So we are not competing but we just want to give rhumba lovers a good treat,” he said.

“Look at how the crowd reacted when we shared the stage with Mopao Koffi (Olomide) at Long Chen during the carnival.

“We therefore want to hold more shows and popularise rhumba music.

“Club Mandisa will be our first stop, our fans in Mutare must brace for fireworks. The last time when we performed there, it was a blast.”

He also revealed that they will be unveiling a new dance that they adopted from Olomide with his blessings during his recent visit to the country.

“When Mopao came, he taught us a new dance called ‘Selfie Take a picture EKOTI TE’ and we will be unveiling it this at Club Mandisa and iIam confident that our loyal patrons will like it,” he said.

Diamond Musica was the headline local act at this year’s edition of the Rhumba Night at the Harare International Carnival. The outfit is originally from DRC but has been resident in Zimbabwe for more than a decade. They rose to fame with their hit “Sina Makosa” and they have collaborated with stars like Sulumani Chimbetu on the song “Amai”.

They have also worked with Energy Mutodi who “adopted” them and briefly took over stewardship of the band.
