DIAMOND Musica, a versatile Congolese rhumba outfit based in Zimbabwe, has decided to tap into the timeless Tuku Music flavour.
The rhumba group has roped in superstar Dr Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi for their forthcoming single, “Bhutsu”.
The track, which will be released next month, is meant to advice people on the phenomenon of spending money on unnecessary things.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society, Diamond Musica frontman Pitshou Lumiere said this is one of the best songs they have done in a while.
“This is a really good song which took us a while to complete as we wanted to make sure that everything was up to scratch before putting it out there,” said Lumiere.
“Oliver Mtukudzi really came to the party on this one. I can guarantee that this track is even bigger and better than “Sinamakosa”.
He said they had decided to feature Tuku on the song as they wanted to tap into his experience as well as add his sound to their music.
“Dr Tuku has been in the industry for a long time so we figured that his experience would play a big part in making this song a success. This is also some sort of cultural exchange as we will be singing in Shona, Swahili and Lingala, which will make it easier for people across the region to relate.”
Whether it is a dancehall or a hip-hop song that Tuku has featured on, he has proven time and again that he can jump on any genre and make it a hit. It would really be interesting to listen to the old man on a rhumba track.
Tuku, who has lost count of how many collaborations he has done with local, regional and internationals acts across genres that include sungura, hip-hop, gospel, mbaqanga and even rock, is on record saying he would never shut out any well-meaning artiste, big or small, who would want to work with him.
