Diamonds for bond

NEW YORK. – Diamonds are not forever after all, the wife of former FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb learned this week. Kendra Gamble-Webb surrendered a pair of diamond earrings, a diamond bracelet and necklace, pearl earrings, a diamond-and-pearl necklace and her diamond wedding ring to the government to secure the $10 million bond posted to release the embattled former FIFA vice-president from custody, according to papers filed in Brooklyn federal court on Monday.

Gamble-Webb, an Atlanta-based physician, also put up a 2015 Ferrari and a 2014 Range Rover, a Rolex and a Hublot watch, a 401K account and a partnership equity interest in a company whose name was redacted, according to documents.

Additionally, Webb and his wife pledged five properties and out-of-state relatives added five more properties to keep the soccer official, who pleaded not guilty to 17 felony charges on Saturday in federal court in Brooklyn, out of jail. Webb also added 11 watches, from Cartier to Rolex to Breitling to Hublot, to the deal.

Webb’s bond package requires him to reside within 20 miles of the Brooklyn courthouse and to wear an electronic monitoring device. He cannot leave his residence without written permission from the FBI except for medical emergencies, and he must pay for a security team that will monitor his movements for authorities and will protect him from possible danger.

Webb is charged with racketeering, fraud, and bribery in the massive US-led investigation into corruption at the highest levels of international soccer. He is accused of accepting $7 million in bribes from sports marketing executive Aaron Davidson in exchange for exclusive rights to soccer tournaments.-AFP.
