Singer Diana “Mangwenya” Samkange will do an album review and launch concert at The Volt in the capital this week.
The musician who is fresh from a tour of the United Kingdom is expected to officially unveil the album “Kwaedza”, to her local fans this Friday, October 14. The album was initially released on August 12 in the UK where the songwriter and singer has been touring places like Manchester, Birmingham, Luton, Leeds, Leicester and Sheffield.
According to manager Shalom Mhizha, the event will be an up-close affair and will give Mangwenya’s fans a chance to understand what the new product is all about.
“The album ‘Kwaedza’ was first launched in the UK in August. But we are now officially unveiling to our local fans on October 14 at The Volt in Harare.
“The ‘Album Review and Launch’ concert is an opportunity for Mangwenya to define and explain the thoughts in each of the eight songs on the new product,” said Mhiza. Tracks on the album include “Kwaedza”, “Hanga”, “Matero”, “Mudiwa John”, “Chokwadi”, “Mationesa”, “Rugare” and “Ari Mandiri”.
The title-track is a powerful jam that has great spiritual meaning and appeals to mature audiences.
The song addresses several challenges facing Zimbabwe, and the same could be said about the other tracks.
The album has received a massive endorsement from Zimbabweans in the UK. The traditional beat and the musician’s voice appear to be doing the trick.
“The response I have received so far is overwhelming. I have been doing so much to make sure the album reaches as far as possible,” said Mangwenya in an interview last week whilst she was still in the UK.
“I’m now about to return home and the forthcoming album review and launch concert will help me reconnect with local fans that I last saw before the tour. This is a special event that I’m really looking forward to.”
