SOUTH Africa-based Zimbabwean church leaders have received the backing of over 150 religious groups to form the Diaspora chapter of the Christians4ED, whose mandate is to mobilise and encourage Christians to register and vote for President Mnangagwa in next year’s elections.
The group, formed last month, has pledged to work with key Zanu PF organs and affiliates to mobilise at least one million Christian votes towards President Mnangagwa’s expected victory.
Speaking to The Herald from South Africa, Christians4ED co-founder Bishop Bruce Mazangwa said rallying behind President Mnangagwa was part of the group’s mandate, after being challenged by the President to contribute to national development in the framework of Vision 2030.
“We are mandated as Christians to support and pray for our leaders because of the anointing they received from God,” said Bishop Mazangwa.
“As a result, it is for us to support the development initiatives of the present-day Government because we also believe that ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo/ Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo’.
“As Christians, we also want to contribute to that call because if the President’s policies prevail, we also succeed as a nation. Our members have no other presidential candidate they support other than President Mnangagwa.”
Bishop Mazangwa said as Christians4ED, they have so far done their organisational and institutional work, which has led to the recruitment of more than 150 church leaders and their congregants in Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Churches making up the Christians4ED include Worship House International Church, the Word Apostolic Ministries, Bethsaida Apostolic Church of Christ and Act’s Faith Apostolic Church Africa, among others.
“We are a diverse group with a singular vision that is to pray and render full support to the President. There are many success stories that have been registered in Zimbabwe under tough conditions in the Second Republic.
“It is through overcoming those hardships that we know that President Mnangagwa’s victory will be certain. The continued use of unjustified illegal sanctions to derail President Mnangagwa’s vision is what we also condemn and call for their removal,” added Bishop Mazangwa.
President Mnangagwa’s candidature continues to receive overwhelming support from party organs, religious groups, affiliate organisations and student bodies, who are pledging to deliver five million votes in next year’s elections.
