Diasporans build maternity wing at Matizha Clinic

A group of diasporans in Gutu District have pooled resources together and built a maternity wing and a waiting mothers’ shelter at Matizha Government Clinic in Gutu in a move that is expected to improve the health delivery system in Serima communal lands and surrounding areas.

The maternity wing and waiting mothers’ shelter are nearing completion and will soon be commissioned.

This development will bring relief to expecting mothers from in and around Serima who are currently traveling up to 30km to Gutu Rural Health Centre at Mpandawana Town or Gutu Mission Hospital also housed in the town. Another nearest clinic is Zoma about 15km away from Matizha that is still under construction using devolution funding.

Gutu Chief Executive Officer Mr Alexander Mutembwa hailed Matizha diasporans for ploughing back into the land of their birth while urging others across the district to take a leaf.

”We want to strongly commend Matizha diasporans for pooling resources together and remembering to give back to their place of birth by improving the health delivery system. The ongoing developments at Matizha Government Clinic means expecting mothers from around Serima will no longer travel long distances to access maternity services,” said Mr Mutembwa.
