Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister, Tatenda Mavetera, has commissioned the Nemanwa Digital Centre in Masvingo District, marking another milestone in the Government’s drive to expand digital access and bridge the gap between rural and urban communities.

The facility was officially opened on the sidelines of commemorations marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which this year is being observed under the theme: “Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World.”

The launch of the centre underscores the Second Republic’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and ensuring that communities in remote areas have access to modern information and communication technologies.

Nemanwa becomes the 28th digital centre to be established in Masvingo Province, reflecting significant progress in expanding internet connectivity and digital services to previously underserved communities.

Speaking at the event, Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira lauded the Government for intensifying efforts to deliver digital infrastructure to rural areas, where the majority of Zimbabweans reside.

He said increased access to internet services and digital technologies would empower communities, improve access to information and create new opportunities for education, innovation and economic growth.

Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) Director-General Dr Gift Machengete reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to expanding the country’s digital infrastructure through the establishment of new centres and the upgrading of existing facilities.

He revealed that 98 digital centres have so far been upgraded nationwide as part of ongoing efforts to provide efficient, reliable and affordable internet services to citizens.

The expansion of digital centres is a key pillar of Zimbabwe’s digitalisation agenda, which seeks to promote inclusive access to technology and ensure that no community is left behind in the country’s march towards a modern, knowledge-based economy.

The commissioning of the Nemanwa Digital Centre is expected to enhance digital literacy, improve access to online services and create opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship among local residents.
