THE wife of a businessman who has allegedly fallen on hard times has been arrested for blocking the Messenger of Court from attaching her property. Shylet Siziba, 33, wife to Collen Siziba, a businessman who was into hunting and safari, was charged with obstructing a Messenger of Court. Siziba, who is a director at Mhukamusango Safaris in Matetsi, pleaded guilty to the charge when she appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Rangarirai Gakanje who fined her $100.
In mitigation, Siziba said she wasn’t aware the Messenger of Court had served them with summons.
She claimed the property belonged to her sister and she was protecting it from being seized.
“The property isn’t mine and I didn’t want the owner to blame me for allowing it to be taken. I wasn’t aware that they had served a 16-year-old girl with the summons,” she said.
Siziba begged for leniency saying she had three minor children to take care of as her husband was ill.
Prosecuting, Listen Nare said Siziba blocked the Messenger of Court Mathew Chiguta on March 11 this year.
The Messenger of Court was supposed to attach two refrigerators, a lounge suite, a kitchen unit, a table with four chairs, a bed and a TV set.
A report was made to the police leading to Siziba’s arrest.
It was not mentioned why the property was being attached.
