A LEADING retail chain has embarked on a corporate social responsibility programme that will see National Social Security Authority (Nssa) pensioners receiving massive daily discounts at OK Zimbabwe outlets, Bon Marche and Ok Mart Stores dotted across the country.
The pensioners will also be able to access USD cash under the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) US$50 facility whenever the cash is available in the store. To enjoy the facility, the pensioner just has to visit the pensioners’ desk at the retail giant stores and also carry their Nssa and national identity cards and they will be good to go.
According to a notice from OK Zimbabwe, pensioners residing at old people’s homes will enjoy free delivery of their groceries after shopping.
“Nssa pensioners are now receiving massive discounts on groceries and a wide array of benefits every day of the month at OK Stores, Bon Marche, and OK Mart stores nationwide. Additional benefits include cash-back at any OK Zimbabwe store, and access to USD cash under RBZ’s US$50 facility through the OK Zimbabwe exchange bureau, subject to availability. There will be free deliveries to pensioners in old people’s homes as well as dedicated tills for pensioners,” said the retail outlet in the notice.
This is not the first time that OK Zimbabwe has availed shopping discounts to Nssa pensioners in an effort to celebrate the life of senior citizens.
In January this year, the retail giant offered Nssa pensioners a 10 percent shopping discount over a six-day period from January 13 to January 18.
“Their bodies might be weaker than they used to but they have an immense ocean of experience and wisdom that can serve as a beacon for younger generations. There is no doubt that the older generation of the population is a valuable part of our society. We take this as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate their accomplishments and bravery.
“Many parents and grandparents built the society we know today brick by brick, survived wars, droughts, pandemics and persevered in difficult circumstances whilst raising their families,” the company said in a statement announcing the January offer to pensioners.
OK Zimbabwe Limited was first incorporated as Springmaster Corporation in 1953, and in 1984, its name was changed to Deltrade Limited which then subsequently changed to the current name in July 2001.
The inaugural branch was opened at OK First Street Harare (then Salisbury) in 1942 and the second branch in Bulawayo in 1952. A further five outlets had been opened across the country by the end of 1960. In 1977, Delta Corporation acquired the business operations in Springmaster Corporation (now OK Zimbabwe Limited), which they held until the de-merger in October 2001.
