A Harare man is in the habit of beating up his ex-girlfriend and stripping her in public following the woman’s termination of their love affair, the Harare Civil Court has heard. Faina Gwavava, who was seeking a protection order against her ex-boyfriend Jonathan Chafachaora, on Wednesday told magistrate Mrs Barbra Mateko that he abuses her in public. Gwavava said Chafachaora was in the habit of assaulting her and tearing her clothes.

“He is in the habit of beating me and rebuking me using vulgar words,” she said. “He comes to my workplace at Market Square bus terminus where I am a vendor and assaults me tearing my clothes, leaving me naked. I once reported the matter to the police but they have done nothing about it,” said Gwavava.

Chafachaora did not deny Gwavava’s application for a protection order. “Give her what she wants because I am not abusing her and have never abused her in any way,” he said. Mrs Mateko granted the order in Gwavava’s favour.
