Lovemore Zigara in Gweru
THE top three teams in the Central Soccer League (CSL) vying for promotion yesterday attended a Premier Soccer League (PSL) induction course in Gweru to prepare them for topflight football.
The induction course was conducted by PSL chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele and attended by Nichrut, Tongogara and Whawha, who are involved in a bruising battle for the sole promotion ticket.
Ndebele said the objective was to prepare the clubs for life in the Premiership.
“I was invited by the CSL board to come and talk to the top three clubs vying for promotion to the Premiership in 2018. The purpose of the induction is to prepare for promotion. Obviously one team will be promoted, but the induction applies even to other clubs that will not make it,” said Ndebele.
“We looked at issues to do with general management, structures of clubs, statutes and club licensing. Club licensing is important because whether you are promoted or not, you need to meet minimum requirements to be recognised as a football club.”
CSL chairman Stanley Chapeta said they had invited the PSL so that the clubs know what to expect in the topflight league.
“We want to ensure that our clubs know what to expect in the Premiership should they get promoted. I hope the information that was imparted would mould them into becoming fully fledged professional entities,” said Chapeta.
Nichrut, Tongogara and Whawha are in a cutthroat promotional race that might be decided on the last day of the season.
With four rounds of matches to go, the three teams are tied on 64 points and only separated by goal difference, with Nichrut leading the standings because of a superior goal difference.
