Southern Region Division One Soccer League teams will play their last five matches simultaneously to avoid manipulation of games.
Three teams, leaders Bantu Rovers, Amagagasi and Bulawayo Chiefs are in the title fight, with fourth-placed ZPC Hwange being the championship’s dark horses.
Rovers with 47 points enjoy a two-point lead over second placed Amagagasi while Chiefs are at third and trail the pacesetters by three points.
“With the championship most likely going to the wire it is prudent to have all matches played on the same day as we promote fair play spirit. We’re not only looking at the title race, but the survival battle as well,” said Zifa Southern Region administrator Augustine Ndlovu.
The league has been forced to move Rovers’ game against Bosso 90 which had been slated for today at White City Stadium to tomorrow at Luveve Stadium.
Also rescheduled for tomorrow is the Talen Vision encounter against Victoria Falls Tigers which was supposed to be played before the Rovers-Bosso 90 game at White City.
“White City is booked on Saturday for a sports event and that is why we’ve moved games that were supposed to be played there to Sunday. Talen Vision will now play their game against Victoria Falls Tigers at White City Stadium on Sunday at 12PM with the Bantu Rovers-Bosso 90 match set for 3PM at Luveve Stadium,” Ndlovu said.
Amagagasi can top the table for a day and take their points tally to 48, one ahead of Rovers if they beat tricky ZRP Bulawayo at Fairbridge this afternoon.
ZRP Bulawayo are oozing with confidence following last weekend’s 2-1 win against Chiefs and will be aiming at collecting maximum points against championship contenders Amagagasi this afternoon.
Amagagasi had to come from a goal down to salvage a draw from the jaws of defeat as they drew 1-1 at home against Bosso 90.
The ZRP Bulawayo-Amagagasi clash is one match to watch today.
Chiefs travel to Hwange to face a Technosphere side that was inactive last week after paying their affiliation fee late.
Another giant killer, Indlovu Iyanyathela will be out for maximum points against Ntabazinduna who were clobbered 5-0 by ZPC Hwange.
Indlovu Iyanyathela surprised Rovers last week, handing the league leaders a 1-2 loss.
ZPC Hwange visit Turk Mine for a date against Casmyn while Hwange Juniors and Makomo lock horns in a coalmining town derby.
ZRP Hwange are set to lose points for a consecutive week because of failure to pay affiliation fees. The league has cancelled the ZRP Hwange-Black Boot clash, with the latter set to benefit three points on a 3-0 score line. — @ZililoR
