THE inaugural World Navi Northern Region Division One Soccer League Soccer Star of the Year selection process will be held on Sunday. The event, the first of its kind, is a result of a deal between the zifa Northern Region Division One League and a Japanese second-hand car exporter World Navi.

The event, according the league chairman Willard Manyengavana, will see 11 players being selected.

The Soccer Star will also be selected at the event.

“We are going to have the Soccer Star of the Year selection this weekend and the panel is already there to choose the best players of the season.

“A total of 11 players, who have excelled this season, will be chosen and the one who will have the most number of votes will be the winner.

“The panel will be made up of coaches, the media and, at least, three referees who will choose the best players of the 2014 season,” said Manyengavana.

The best player will get an opportunity to try his luck in the Japanese top-flight league, known as the J-League.

The best player will also win a car courtesy of World Navi.

“We were supposed to hand over the car to the winner soon after the selection process but we have decided that after choosing the best 11 players, we should set aside a day were we will hold a banquet where the winner will be honoured and the car handed over to the best player.

“The schedule is now tight for us as the Yadah TV Cup final is set for November 29,” said Manyengavana.

Meanwhile, Buffalo Junior maintained top spot in the zifa Eastern Region Division One league, just a point ahead of Mutare City Rovers.
