Division One to take a break

Gerald Sibanda

THE Southern Region Division One matches will take a break after 15 August to allow for the holding of the harmonised elections.

The elections will take place on the 23rd of August and the Southern Region confirmed the decision through a circular letter.

“This Circular serves to advice all Division One Clubs that there shall have league games played in midweek for the next coming two weeks starting July 19 to August 15 of 2023,” the letter stated

The league had already started the season later than the other regions therefore the midweek matches will be necessary.

Fans will expect to be showered with interesting matches which will be packed in the upcoming weeks, starting from Friday when Adachi take on Indlovu Iyanyathela at White City Stadium

Weekend matches will all be played on Saturday and they kick off with what is expected to be an interesting tie as second and third placed Talen Vision and ZPC Hwange square off at Filabusi Government Primary School on Saturday, in what is expected to be the highlight of the weekend. Both teams will be hoping to get positive results as they both did not manage to get maximum points in their previous matches, with Talen Vision losing 2-0 away to DRC United and ZPC Hwange drawing 1-1 with Casmyn at home.

Log leaders Arenel Movers will also hope to continue with their unbeaten run when they play in-form side, CIWU at White City Stadium.

Mid-week matches which will be played on Wednesday July 19 will also have mouthwatering fixtures with the most notable one being a Matabeleland North Derby between ZPC Hwange and Mosi Rovers.

Arenel will also travel to Hwange to face giant slayers DRC United at Mpumalanga in what is expected to be another interesting fixture.
