Hailing from rural Manama in Gwanda district, musician Talent Moyo, better known as DJ Doctorlove, is on a mission to shine a spotlight on his hometown.
The house/kwasa-kwasa artiste, behind last year’s festive hit Uhambile Udali, which topped charts in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa, says his ultimate goal is to make Gwanda synonymous with musical talent.
Speaking to Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, DJ Doctorlove shared that his journey into music came unexpectedly.
“Growing up, I didn’t like music, and I didn’t have a role model in the arts. One morning, I just woke up and went to a studio without any preparation. My first song, Ngikhumbula Udaliwami, gained fans who encouraged me to make an album, and that’s how I became a full-time artiste,” he said.
Despite being based in Botswana, DJ Doctorlove has remained active in the music scene, performing at numerous festivals and shows across the country.
He explained that many of his songs are inspired by personal experiences, especially heartbreaks, which have shaped his love-themed tracks. He also acknowledged the challenges he has faced, including financial instability, which he said can affect the quality of production.
Yet, his focus remains clear.
“My dream is to put Gwanda on the map and make people proud of my hometown. I want to see Gwanda producing more talented artistes, and I hope to perform internationally alongside big names in the industry,” DJ Doctorlove said.
In pursuit of this vision, he is preparing to release his fourth album, Batshaya Ndendukuzani, aiming to further elevate both his career and the profile of Gwanda. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
