Celebrated disc jockey, Tinotenda Marimo, popularly known as DJ Rimo, has been nominated as the Best Star Club DJ at the inaugural Shining Stars Africa Awards slated for September 2 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Shinning Stars Africa Awards is an international award ceremony that acknowledges and celebrates individuals and organisations who are contributing positively and doing well in various industries such as art, science and entrepreneurship among others.
DJ Rimo rose to fame mainly through his association with the late famous socialite, Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, as they used to live in the fast lane, hosting popular all-white parties.
He is also the first Zimbabwean DJ to win the Africa Social Entertainment Awards 2022, raising the country’s flag high in the showbiz industry.
In an interview, DJ Rimo said it was a privilege to have been nominated and be considered among some great talent in Africa in the Best Star Club DJ category.
“I would like to thank the platform for the nomination and to congratulate the other nominees for standing out and being recognised as well as acknowledging my fans and family for all the support,” he said.
“It is a privilege to even be considered among some great talent in this category.
“I feel honoured to be acknowledged for the time and dedication I have put into my craft because being a DJ for me is not just a job or a way of life, for me, it is part of my DNA, and being recognised for doing something you love is amazing.
He said winning the Africa Social Entertainment Awards 2022 was an amazing accomplishment on a personal level.
“The fact that my career trajectory is on the rise and being seen as one of Zimbabwe’s top DJs is more than I could have dreamed,” DJ Rimo said. “The grind is real. We cannot afford to ever be complacent because the bar needs to constantly be pushed.
“Creativity and collaboration will encourage growth at personal and industry levels so let us keep hustling and enjoy these types of fruits in the future. The response I have received from the industry and my fans has been astounding.
“I have worked with some amazing talent and the learning curve has been steep but I am up to the challenge.” Early this year, DJ Rimo ventured into music and currently, he has released four singles that are making waves on airplay.
“My team and I have some interesting stuff on the horizon collaborations with the likes of Mr Brown and many more artists. So, please keep an eye out because we will be dropping some new material and do not forget to follow me on my social media handles,” DJ Rimo said.
