DJ Zandimaz makes comeback

Two years after undergoing brain surgery, DJ Zandimaz has made a musical comeback launching her latest single Bawo at Propaganda in Tshwane.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the DJ, whose real name is Zandile Mazithulela, said she hasn’t fully recovered from surgery.

“My recovery has been a rollercoaster [ride] but I’m still in recovery mode and it’s been good. I was going through emotions and got inspiration to start recording new music. A week after my surgery I went to a live [on Instagram] with a lady by the name of Nobuhle, from Newcastle, who also was trying to get herself somewhere.

Zandimaz is excited about her return to the music scene.

“The launch was epic, energy and people – it was overwhelming, we had a great time. This is only the beginning, I can’t wait to share my craft with my fans.”

In July TshisaLIVE reported Zandimaz had taken a step back from her music career as she recovered after having a brain tumour removed. She revealed to TshisaLIVE she underwent surgery after a seizure while touring the UK in 2022 and another weeks later while in Zambia.

“We thought it was fatigue and that’s when I went to see my doctor and they discovered I have a tumour. For a year I took a break, then things got worse as I had anxiety and it was triggering my nervous system. I was going through different types of emotions. I couldn’t walk properly,” she said.

“I went back to my doctor and they told me it was getting to a point where they couldn’t do anything about it. The operation could have been fatal and I was praying for it to be successful. It was a seven-hour surgery. I stayed in the ICU for five days, then went home. I’m glad I’m on the road to recovery.” – Times
