Prominent stand-up comedian Doc Vikela real name Victor Mpofu will have his first one-man show dubbed “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor” tonight at Alliance Francaise. Vikela who is on the rise in comedy sphere said he decided to come up with the show as a way of establishing himself in the arts industry.
“I think after more than four years of consistent performances with other people,I can now say that I am ready to breakout and establish the brand Doc Vikela,” he said.
Vikela said is show theme is meant to allow comedy enthusiasts know who he really is.
“I promise my fans a night of laughter as I seek to reassure people that indeed I am a doctor and they should have every reason to trust me. I am encouraging them to come in their numbers to support me,” he said.
“Trust Me, I’m a doctor is about explaining what Doc Vikela means, why he calls himself the doctor, what kind of doctor he is and why people should take his ‘prescriptions’ seriously.”
Surprise acts are expected during the one hour show.
The show will also be filmed and distributed on DVD. Vikela was born in Gokwe but grew up in Gweru and before he became a full time comedian, he was a teacher and then a Human Resources Executive.
In 2011, he came together with Simba the Comic King and started Simuka Comedy, one of Harare’s biggest comedy clubs.
