Doctors shine at National Medical Excellence Awards

A total of 28 doctors have been honoured with various awards in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the country’s healthcare sector.
Honorary life president of the Continental Association of African Neurosurgical Societies CAANS) and University of Zimbabwe neurosurgeon, Professor Kalangu Kazadi and his compatriot, Mr Christopher Samkange, presented the doctors with awards at a ceremony that was held recently in the capital.

“This event marks a significant milestone in recognising the achievements of medical professionals. It always warms up our hearts to see that people are noticing what we are doing,” Prof Kazadi said.

“That feedback is important for us. It will make us keep going. Our job is not only money-oriented. Doctors save lives, they teach, they do research and they do their best. This kind of event is very important because it encourages people to work hard.”

The National Medical Excellence Awards aims to celebrate exceptional healthcare providers in the country.

The awards recognise outstanding clinicians and healthcare professionals who made outstanding contributions to the advancement of healthcare, improvement in standards of patient safety, research and innovation, and quality of care.

Winning categories included the mental wellness champion award, excellence in orthopaedic surgery, exemplary general practitioner, innovation in medical practice, outstanding excellence in endocrinology and metabolism, innovative rehabilitation excellence and excellence in nursing, dental surgery medical leadership, patient care, and neurosurgery, among others.
