The Lowveld Media Trust has unveiled a 13-episode cultural documentary series dedicated to celebrating the rich heritage of the Shangani/Tsonga people.
Titled “Exploration of Shangani Culture”, the series delves into the vibrant traditions of the Tsonga/Shangani communities in Zimbabwe’s south-eastern Lowveld, covering areas such as Chiredzi, Mwenezi, and Mahenye.
The documentary is directed and produced by Passmore Ndlovu, who also serves as the executive director of Lowveld Media Trust.
“We’re thrilled about this project and grateful to the Lowveld community, our partners, and all government departments that supported the production,” Ndlovu said.
“This is the perfect time for media organisations to tell stories that foster unity and promote national development. Media, when used wisely, can transform lives and bring positive change to our communities.”
The project has received endorsement from Chiredzi Rural District Council, represented by Ailes Baloyi, highlighting its potential to promote tourism, cultural diversity, and development in the Lowveld.
The series is available on the Lowveld Media Trust YouTube channel, with an audio version airing on Avuxeni FM Community Radio in Chiredzi.
This initiative is implemented in partnership with Culture Fund under the CreativeACTIONs Two programme, supported by the European Union. It is the first locally produced documentary series in the Lowveld, focusing specifically on the Shangani/Tsonga cultural group and reinforcing the importance of cultural preservation and diversity.
Founded in Chiredzi, the Lowveld Media Trust has a history of collaborating with various organisations on projects aimed at promoting access to information and celebrating cultural diversity.
