The vibrant Queens Sports Club Ground in Bulawayo set the stage for the much-anticipated second edition of the Doek and Slay event on Saturday, where a diverse assembly of women showcased their unique dress styles and celebrated in a joyous atmosphere.

The grounds buzzed with lively energy as attendees adorned themselves in an array of colours, including army green, various shades of brown, white, and camouflage, creating a visually captivating spectacle. DJ Simba Tunes curated the musical backdrop, spinning current tunes that had the attendees dancing throughout the event. The stellar lineup of performers included urban grooves sensation ExQ, Baba Harare and Mzoe 7.

Hits like “Bhachura”, “Musalala”, “Tsvigiri” and “Paya Paya” resonated through the audience, sparking screams of joy from the ecstatic crowd. His charismatic presence added an unforgettable touch to the event, creating an atmosphere of sheer excitement.

The audience actively participated, singing along to ExQ’s songs, fostering a sense of unity and celebration. His performance, lasting over an hour, allowed for a deep connection between the artiste and his audience.

Mzoe 7 and his energetic dance group took the stage after, delivering a performance that had the audience grooving to the rhythm of his hit songs, including the popular “Kwasa Kwasa”.

The highlight of the event was Baba Harare, who graced the stage with enthusiasm, showcasing new tracks from his latest album, “Prove Them Wrong”. The event was skilfully hosted by MCs Selie and Noma, who kept the audience entertained throughout the day.

In a post-performance interview with Chronicle Showbiz, Baba Harare expressed his excitement about the warm reception in Bulawayo, commending the Doek and Slay event as “amazing” and lauding the love and support from the attendees.

“The Doek and Slay event is a wonderful initiative. It’s a special occasion dedicated solely to women, allowing them to have some quality time alone and truly let loose. It’s incredible to witness how much joy and happiness it brings to all the ladies attending,” he said.

As the final Doek and Slay edition of 2023 concluded, Anesu Rwanga, the visionary behind the empowering event, shared plans for international expansion in the coming year. Rwanga expressed passion for this event that has been held nationally, stressing its significance beyond income generation. “As the movement continues to grow, we are looking to expand our reach beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. In the coming year, we’re set to go international, with plans to host events in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, and Malawi. – @TashaMutsiba.
