The highly anticipated Doek and Slay event has announced the dates for its upcoming August edition, promising an unforgettable experience for show goers. Since its inception early last year in Harare, the event has gained significant traction, becoming a must-attend occasion for many ladies.
For Bulawayo, this will mark the fourth edition of the event, set to take place on August 18 at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre main arena. The line-up for the Bulawayo edition boasts popular artistes such as Enzo Ishall, Freeman and the HKD band.
The slay code for this edition has been revealed as denim, a white top, a doek of your choice and shades, setting the tone for a stylish and vibrant gathering.
Early bird tickets for the event will be available for purchase from today to June 20.Following the Bulawayo event, Doek and Slay will continue its tour to other cities, including Gweru on August 25 at the Gweru Sports Club, where the main artistes will be Killer T and ExQ.
The event is also set to return to Harare on August 11, Kadoma on August 4, and Mutare on September 1, with additional dates for other cities to be announced soon.
Anesu Rwanga, the event organiser, expressed excitement for the upcoming Bulawayo edition and shared insights into the event’s vision and impact.
“Some special attractions and activities planned for the Bulawayo Doek and Slay include live entertainment, fashion showcases and a marketplace featuring local vendors and designers,” he said.
Rwanga stressed the event’s commitment to safety and inclusivity.“To ensure the event remains safe and inclusive, we’ll have security personnel on-site, as well as a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination or harassment. We also prioritise diversity and inclusion in our marketing and programming efforts.”
He said the Doek and Slay event also aims to support and promote local businesses and creatives.“We’re actively reaching out to local businesses and creatives to participate in the event, offering them opportunities to showcase and sell their products. Additionally, we’re promoting and highlighting these local talents through our event marketing and social media channels.”
The most rewarding aspect of organising Doek and Slay events, Rwanga said, has been providing a platform for women to celebrate their culture and express themselves through music, fashion and creativity.“Seeing the positive impact and empowerment it brings to attendees has been truly fulfilling.” – @TashaMutsiba
