Dog carries foetus into Gwanda mine

Police in Matabeleland South province are investigating a case of termination of pregnancy after a dog was seen carrying a foetus at Vubachikwe Mine in Gwanda last week.

In a statement, Acting Provincial ZRP spokesperson for Matabeleland South, Assistant Inspector Thandolwenkosi Moyo said they received the report of suspected termination of pregnancy after a dog carried the infant to its owner’s homestead.

“A dog which belongs to a resident of Vubachikwe Mine carried remains of a suspected human infant from a dumping site to his homestead. He (owner) immediately reported the matter to the police.’

In an interview, Mr Denzel Shoko, whose dog discovered the remains, said the incident came as a surprise to him.
“It was early in the morning when l discovered that my dog was carrying something suspicious coming from the dumping site, when l looked closely l discovered that it looked like an infant. I then closed the suspected infant with a plastic dish as l went to report to the nearest police station, which then collected the body for post-mortem.

l was shocked and disturbed upon witnessing this incident, the person who committed this crime should be found and punished because a child is a blessing from God and no one has the right to take a life. They should be brought to justice,’’ he said
