TWO men from Kwekwe who stabbed a fellow patron to death with an Okapi knife following a dispute over a dollar have been sentenced to 30 years in jail each.
High Court Judge Justice Naison Chivhayo sitting at the Gweru High Court Circuit, handed down the sentence to Prince Magwati (24) and Onard Musvunguma (33) after convicting them of murder .
The duo was found guilty of killing Mr Leonard Gambakamba at Mbizo 14 Shops on September 11, 2025.
Circumstances are that Magwati, Gambakamba and his brother were at Mbizo 14 Shops when Magwati accused Gambakamba of stealing his dollar, leading to an altercation.
The matter was initially resolved, and Magwati left the shops only to return in the company of Musvunguma.
The court heard that the two convicts then confronted Gambakamba and began assaulting him.
They punched and shoved him to the ground, before Magwati drew an okapi knife and stabbed Gambakamba once on the chest and once on the back.
Magwati and Musvunguma fled the scene, and other patrons gave chase but failed to apprehend them.
Police attended the scene and found Gambakamba unconscious. He was rushed to Kwekwe General
Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Magwati and Musvunguma were later arrested.
A post-mortem conducted by Dr Sanganai Pesanai at United Bulawayo Hospitals on September 15, 2025, concluded that the cause of death was acute cardiac failure, haemorrhagic shock and haemothorax.
