A 30-YEAR-OLD man from Nyamandlovu has put himself in the crosshairs of the law after allegedly tricking a woman out of US$100 with a promise of donkeys he never delivered.

Prince Nyoni of Redwood B Village appeared before Tredgold Magistrate Maxwell Ncube and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. Two months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and ten months suspended on the condition that he repays the victim, effectively committing him to 280 hours of community service.

According to Prosecutor Mehluli Ndlovu, the incident happened on 21 July. Nyoni told Nokuthula Sibanda that he had found someone selling donkeys in Mathambo village, shortly after she had expressed interest in buying one.

Nyoni demanded US$100 from Sibanda, claiming he would purchase the donkey and deliver it to her. Instead, he allegedly ran off with the cash and spent it on personal needs, failing to bring her the donkey as promised.

The matter was reported to police, who investigated and arrested Nyoni.
The US$100 was never recovered.
