Don’t always play victim, women urged

Women have been urged to move away from always portraying themselves as victims of gender inequality and instead take the initiative to improve their lives.

This was said by a word press developer Ms Tapiwanashe Manhombo during celebrations of women in ICT in Harare on Wednesday.

According to Ms Manhombo, women needed to show that they were also as good as men.

“You are responsible for your own life; sometimes you should take ownership of the problems you face and start working on them,” said Ms Manhombo.

“Ladies, we don’t want a situation where you will end up saying this person is treating me this way because I cannot do this.

“Do not feel insignificant, embrace what you are and just be yourself in whatever you do. Just know that the world owes you nothing.”

Ms Manhombo urged women to focus on their abilities.

“Let us focus on the things we can do, focus more on our abilities, realise, appreciate and act like we know that men and women are equally capable of excelling in the tech industry; that is when you are able to progress in your career,” she said.
