Zimbabwean youths should shun divisive party leaders pursuing selfish agendas and rally behind President Mugabe, zanu-pf secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Pupurai Togarepi said yesterday.

Addressing the youth who had completed a two-day course in professional hunting in Harare, Cde Togarepi said President Mugabe was endorsed as the party’s candidate for the 2018 harmonised elections.

“Do not create enemies among the membership of the party, never belong to anybody. You belong to the revolution. The revolution is led by one person and that person is President Mugabe,” he said.

“If anyone says follow my orders because l was appointed by the President, don’t listen. Within our party, there are people bent on destroying the revolution and if you are not careful, you will miss the point by following the pretenders.”

Cde Togarepi warned the youth not be dragged into factional politics.

He said the training in professional hunting was launched after President Mugabe bemoaned that professional hunting remained a preserve of the few, 35 years into independence.

“President Mugabe bemoaned the fact that professional hunting remains in the hands of white people. The President said why don’t we go in as the youth and look after our animals even if it means hunting them for financial gain?” he said.

“We hope as you get in this trade, you are not going to be corrupt. We are not training criminals but contributors to our economy.

“So we expect that after this course, you should be principled, professional and informed about conservation of wildlife.”

The training in professional hunting comes as rampant poaching has gone on for years in the country with more than 50 elephants killed a fortnight ago by cyanide poisoning in Hwange National Park.

Three more jumbos were found dead in Matusadona National Park in Kariba area.

Two years ago, about 300 elephants were killed by cyanide poisoning in Hwange National Park.

Cde Togarepi said the youth who excelled in the course would be sent to Kenya for further training in conservation.
