DEPUTY Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development for Livestock Paddy Zhanda has urged farmers to stop being over-dependent on Government and other well wishers for the country to be able to boost its agricultural production.Speaking during a meeting with dairy farmers in Gweru recently, Dep Minister Zhanda said farmers must not always wait for farming implements to be distributed for free but to improvise to ensure there was full utilisation of land.

The deputy minister said full utilisation of land would also help in averting hunger as well as boosting agricultural production.

He said politicians should not misinform the people that they would get things for free in their quest to be voted into power.

“Historically, people in the country have been made to believe that the Government issues freebies.

“I think as politicians we have gone too far in making people believe that the Government can always provide free things. I do not think that at the moment it is something that the Government can consider to give people free farming implements. If it happened before it happened that time,” he said.

Dep Minister Zhanda said the Government had sourced farming equipment from Brazil that would be distributed through Agribank.
