WARRIORS coach Mario Marinica has been clear that the door is open for local players to be part of the AFCON finals party in Morocco.
After the Algeria and Qatar friendly matches, he said the process will begin to identify any additional players that can help the team deliver.
“After this, I have already started engaging the PSL coaches to identify local players ready to play for the national team…,” he said, adding that a squad will be set up that could go into camp before some players are picked to join the best foreign-based players.
The Warriors face Algeria on Thursday and then Qatar four days later in international friendly matches.
That, he said, is another opportunity for players to prove themselves before the process for a wider search begins.
Marinica said he did not play a role in the selection of the team playing friendlies, but it was a good starting point.
“Coming this short time, many people may not know that the squad had to be put together in time to get a visa and at the same time to get the players together because there are some regulations from Fifa that you have to notify the players…
“Now I have the opportunity to watch some of the players that have been playing for the national team… and evaluate them.”
