Zimbabwe has for the first time got a double nomination for the 2023 CLIMA Africa Awards.
The nomination goes to award-winning gospel singer Everton Mlalazi who is vying for Africa’s Best Male Gospel Artiste and Africa’s Best Male Artiste.
Mlalazi is competing against some of the best regional gospel giants including Dunsin Oyekan (Nigeria), Nathaniel Bassey (Nigeria), Joe Mettle (Ghana), Winnie Mashaba (South Africa), Janet Otineo (Kenya), and Mercy Chinwo among others.
After the nominations were revealed recently, Mlalazi took to Instagram to express his thoughts about his journey with the CLIMA Africa Awards.
In particular, Mlalazi congratulated other big nominees.
“Matthew 9:27 says the harvest is ready but the reapers are few. Such recognition from CLIMA Africa for the best gospel music genre goes a long way,” he said.
“Congratulations to my fellow nominees Mercy Chinwo, Nathaniel, Moses, Winnie, and Janet. Onward and upward for the kingdom.”
The Nomakunje singer said this came as a surprise and was ready to represent Zimbabwe.
“This was unexpected but fully appreciated. I am in awe and grateful to God for the recognition. It encourages us to keep the EM Brand working and alive. On the other end, I am very much humbled that I can be recognised in Nigeria such a country full of talent and art,” he said.
Commenting on another trendy alert subject on social media about his virtual hymns launch this weekend, Mlalazi who is continuing to dominate local radio chart shows said preparations are at an advanced stage for the launch.
“I am releasing a hymns album this weekend dubbed ‘Virtual hymns with EM and Worship Therapy.”‘
Hymns hit people differently and in this album, we picked 12 hymns that have been relevant in my life since growing up.
I hope the same way they keep me going is the same way they will also touch people’s lives,” he said.
