The recently launched Dr Guramatunhu State-of-the-art library and Information Communication and Technology Centre in Nyazura has brought a new lease of life to the rural folk school children who believe that their dreams have come true. Celebrating the development by one of their own, the children said learning was going to improve at St. Peters Tokoyo Primary School since reading material was one of their major challenges. In a wide range of interviews with the elated school children, they explained their joy.
Delma Buzuzu (12) of Mutungagore Secondary School doing Grade 7 and who is the school head-girl said the availability of the library and ICT centre has made life easier.
“I would like to thank Dr Guramatunhu for the good gesture; he did a wonderful thing for us. We are now able to get our reading material on the internet the thing we never realised could happen to children in remote areas like ours,” said Delma.
“This simply means problems solved for us because we used to have difficult times during study when we were forced to share a single book in numbers. It is also going to help the community at large whereby everyone would be able to learn through e-learning.”
Delma also wishes that all the schools surrounding them do the same for their children to be able to move with the times.
Tracy Mukuri of Mutemerwa Village said computers are going to make learning simpler by searching terms they do not know on the internet.
“We have benefited a lot because coming to school without enough resources was a major challenge that would make life very difficult for children in the rural areas. Taking for instance the library equipped with 40 computers will enable us to search for terms that we do not know unlike in the past years we had difficulties in doing so without dictionaries.
“Now that the computers are plenty it enables us to study without difficulties and by the time we finish our primary education, will be able to use the knowledge acquired effectively at secondary school. When I finish school I want to be a doctor and help our school as well.”
Daniel Chitakatira (12) in Grade 6 was happy to learn that at the school is going to have an orchard in place and a vegetable garden.
“This is going to help us with food during lunch time. Again if we fail to get some of the things we want at school, we will be able to sell our vegetables to the surrounding areas and have money,” he said.
St. Peters Tokoyo is a school located 51 kilometers off Mutare Road in Nyazura and has 670 pupils.
