Former minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma took to X to clarify that chart-topping South African singer and songwriter Nkosazana Daughter is not one of her daughters.
The former ANC MP shared that she has been receiving congratulatory messages on the success of the artist, as many people across the continent thought she was her daughter, thanks to her stage name.
Dr Dlamini Zuma has daughters Thuthukile Zuma, Thuli Zuma, and Gugu Zuma-Ncube with former president Jacob Zuma. Gugu and Thuli are well known in the South African screen industry, being behind popular titles such as “Uzalo” on SABC 1 and the “Umjolo” series, which aired on Netflix.
“I have been receiving congratulatory messages on the success of #NkosazanaDaughter, Many people, especially on the continent, mistakenly think she is one of my daughters,” she wrote on X.
Nkosazana Daughter’s full name is Nkosazana Nolwazi Nzama, and she is originally from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and has gained popularity as one of the top vocalists in amapiano.
The award-winning musician gained early recognition through singles such as “Izitha”, “Umama Akekho”, “Dali Nguwe” and has collaborated with some of the country’s top producers such as DJ Maphorisa and Master KG. She has performed at venues across the country and at top festivals, and across the continent.
Nkosazana Daughter was named Musician of the Year at the 17th annual Feather Awards.
In the tweet, Dr Dlamini Zuma congratulated the musician’s parents for raising a superstar. “Congratulations to her partners for raising a super star. Congratulations.”
Dr Dlamini Zuma’s got people laughing as while many understood her point, they could help but make jokes that Nkosazana Daughter is her child. –IOL
