PROMINENT Gweru business woman and philanthropist, Dr Smelly Dube, on Saturday donated US$5 000 cash to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe (ELCZ)’s Gweru East Parish.

Dr Dube was the guest of honour at the church’s fundraising ceremony where it sought to raise $30 000 towards the purchasing of a church bus.
The fundraising ceremony coincided with 50th wedding anniversary celebration for the parish’s pastor and Dean, Albert Marova and wife, Gamuchirai, who also renewed their vows in front of jubilant parishioners.
Dr Dube, who grew up a Lutheran herself, said the donation was part of her commitment to contribute to the work of God by the church that nurtured her.

Now a Brethren-in-Christ Church member after she got married to her sweet heart, Eng Mncedisi Dube, Dr Dube said she was happy that the two churches that she identified with were both serving the same purposes of preaching the gospel of life and supporting the needy in society.
“I grew up in Lutheran Church and I feel at home every time I come here. When I heard that the church was fundraising to purchase a bus for its use, I did not think twice about coming here when I received the invitation because I knew I should go and support the good work by the church, especially the charity work it does in the community,” she said.

Dr Dube also commended the elderly couple, Mr and Mrs Marova, for their steadfastness in their marriage and the church.
“The two, Dean Marova and Mrs Marova are an inspiration to us all, couples and younger generations, that we must remain faithful to God ourselves,” she said.
